Verizon is partnering with health domain specialist to leverage its connectivity + IT platform. With nPhase in its kitty, Verizon seems to be building a formidable global M2M platform as Verizon seems to be bringing all such M2M related platforms (e.g., utility, health, home gateways etc) connected through nPhase. But I wonder how such platforms embrace standards like ETSI M2M; also whether HTTP would become de facto protocol for the communication between the devices and M2M back-end systems?

With everyone talking about 50 billion connected devices by 2020, machine-to-machine (M2M) area with business opportunities in markets like fleet management, mobile health, usage-based insurance, remote services and smart grid, is witnessing rapid growth in terms solutions and parntership. One such partnership is Axeda partnering with Verizon. In this partnership, Axeda provides a cloud based M2M application development platform that can scale to millions of devices and Verizon provides best of bread mobile broadband network. For the M2M customer, they can focus on optimizing their M2M business process and leave out the M2M application development paltform and network to Axeda/Verizon.

I wonder whether there are any initiatives to define reference business processes for each of M2M market segments also information elements (similar to TMF SID) that can drive standardization of specific M2M market segment.
